Welcome to a New Academic Year

September 1, 2004

Dear Rutgers Students:

Welcome to a new academic year at Rutgers.

I offer our newest students my best wishes as you find your way around campus and get comfortable at Rutgers. We are glad you are here, and I hope your time at Rutgers will be a rewarding experience. To our returning students, I encourage you to seek new opportunities to make your time at Rutgers meaningful and fulfilling.

Over the summer, our staff has worked hard to improve campus facilities and grounds, while continuing to make student services more convenient and user-friendly. New professors and administrators have also joined us, enriching the university community with their own energy and ideas.

On September 1, the first day of classes, I will be on campus to greet students at the Busch Dining Hall on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. I hope you will come up, introduce yourself, ask a question, or just say hello. In the coming days I will also be on our Newark and Camden campuses to greet students, and I look forward to seeing you on one of these occasions.

I also invite you to attend my Annual Address to the University Community, which will take place on Friday, September 10, at the University Senate meeting. The speech will start at 1:10 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Rutgers Student Center on College Avenue. Come hear about the university's plans for the coming year and ask questions on any Rutgers topic.

As we begin the fall semester, I offer my very best wishes for a successful and enjoyable year at Rutgers.
