Welcome Back to the 2006–07 Academic Year

January 16, 2007

Members of the Rutgers Community:

Welcome back to campus for a new semester, and belated Happy New Year.   For those who are new this semester, welcome to Rutgers!

I hope that during the winter break you were able to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.  Our Texas Bowl victory, capping an amazing football season, certainly added to the enjoyment of the holidays.

As you prepare for the hard work you will undertake this semester, the university is tackling a number of important projects.  These include setting priorities for a major fundraising campaign, pursuing the work of our committee on efficiency and entrepreneurship, and preparing for reaccreditation next year.

Work also continues on an aggressive plan to improve the Camden Campus’s facilities to match the excellence of its faculty, students, and staff.  Highly anticipated renovations to the Campus Center dining facilities will begin in May and will be ready for the fall.  Plans for a thorough upgrade to the recreation facility will be completed this semester so work can begin later this year.  In addition, construction of a new School of Law facility on Fifth Street is well under way, and renovations to the existing building have also begun.

Again, welcome back.  I wish you a rewarding and fulfilling 2007 at Rutgers.
