Voting Information for Rutgers Students

October 29, 2004

Dear Rutgers Students:

You are faced with an important decision. On Tuesday, November 2, those of you who are registered to vote can help decide who will serve as president of the United States for the next four years. For some of you this will be your first time voting; for many it will be your first opportunity to cast a ballot in a presidential election. With pre-election polls predicting a tight race, every vote can make a difference. I urge you to get out and vote for the candidate of your choice.

RU Voting, a nonpartisan web site developed by Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics, provides clear material and useful links to help you understand the candidates’ positions on crucial issues. The site at http://ruvoting.rutgers.edu/ also lists the polling places for students registered in New Brunswick/Piscataway. Click on “Find out what RU Voting is doing for you on Election Day” to learn where to go; information on shuttle buses is also included there. Newark students who registered with an on-campus address should vote on the first floor of Conklin Hall. In Camden, students registered at a campus residence should vote in the Multipurpose Room of the Campus Center. If you registered at your off-campus or home address, contact your county clerk for polling information. Polls in New Jersey are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you are voting by absentee ballot, make sure to send your ballot in time to be received by the County Board of Elections on Election Day.

Members of the Rutgers University Voting Coalition, an alliance of student organizations coordinated by Beth Logan, worked tirelessly to register and provide absentee ballots to some 11,000 Rutgers students during the past few months. Now it is up to you. Please go to the polls on Tuesday, Election Day, and make your vote count.

Richard L. McCormick
