Strategic Plan for Information Technology

February 20, 2006

Members of the Rutgers Community:

A year ago I announced the formation of a committee to forge a strategy for putting information technology to the best possible use in furthering excellence in research, teaching, and public service at Rutgers. The committee's visionary report is now complete and ready for review. It addresses the use of IT in teaching and learning, research, community development, and administration as well as proposing some very interesting advances in technologies that have been adopted successfully by many of our peer institutions.

The IT Strategic Plan, along with background material, is available at http://oit.rutgers.edu/strategicgoals.html. You are welcome to comment on the report through that web site during the next two months. We intend to release a final report and begin implementation in May.

I am grateful to the students, faculty, and staff from all Rutgers campuses who served on the Information Technology Strategic Planning Committee, and owe special thanks to the cochairs, Vice President Mike McKay and Professor Steven Director. Through their efforts and your feedback, we can ensure that the remarkable tools of information technology help serve not only the Rutgers community's current needs but also our highest aspirations.
