Rutgers Against Hunger's 2010 Adopt-a-Family Campaign

October 21, 2010

Members of the Rutgers Community:

I am pleased to announce the second annual Adopt-a-Family Campaign sponsored by Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH). In 2009, your generosity enabled us to sponsor more than 200 New Jersey families struggling with hunger and poverty, giving them a brighter holiday season. It was a marvelous response in the Rutgers spirit of service, and I hope our university community will again participate in this worthwhile project.

Student clubs and organizations, fraternities and sororities, administrative and academic departments, and alumni and other groups are encouraged to sign up on the RAH website at http://rah.rutgers.edu/adopt.shtml by Friday, November 5. We are working with social service agencies across the state to identify families who can benefit from our assistance. Families will be assigned to participants in the next couple of weeks, with a brief family profile that may help to personalize your efforts. All donations will be collected by Rutgers University Facilities in early December.

Donations typically include nonperishable foods and other needed items, such as toiletries, baby supplies, and clothing items or nonelectronic toys under $15. More information about suggested donations for the Adopt-a-Family Campaign, and about other ways you can support our antihunger efforts, can be found on the RAH website.

Hunger and poverty continue to cause great suffering in our state, particularly for families with children and people on fixed incomes. I hope you will consider taking part in the Adopt-a-Family Campaign and giving your service, generosity, and compassion to those in need.
