April 30, 2004
Members of the Rutgers Faculty and Staff:
Michael W. Carroll, who has provided outstanding leadership during his seven years at Rutgers, has informed me that he will make a transition out of his role as President of the Rutgers University Foundation and Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. Mike will remain in his position until July 30, 2004, one month after the completion of The Rutgers Campaign: Creating the Future Today, which he has coordinated so capably and which has far surpassed its $500 million fundraising goal.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Mike for his hard work and dedication to Rutgers. His energy and expertise have enabled Rutgers to make significant advances in expanding its development capacity. At a time when constraints on public investments in Rutgers have elevated the critical importance of seeking private contributions to the university, Mike has helped Rutgers move into the 21st century with a thoroughly professional fundraising operation.
Jim Dawson, Vice President and Director of Gift Planning for the Foundation, has agreed to serve in Mike’s position on an interim basis while Rutgers launches a national search to select a new leader for this important division. Please join me in expressing our appreciation to Mike for his highly successful tenure and in wishing Jim well as he accepts this new responsibility.
Richard L. McCormick
