Goals for Rutgers in the Coming Year

October 17, 2007

Members of the Rutgers Community:

Rutgers faces tremendous opportunities and challenges in the year ahead, and I want to bring to your attention two documents that spell out the university's key goals and ambitions for 2007–08.

My administration's Strategic Goals and Areas of Emphasis and Effort is available at http://www.president.rutgers.edu/strategicgoals0708.shtml. I have enumerated three dozen specific areas in which the university is committed to making progress, including academic programs and facilities projects on each campus, outreach to alumni and New Jersey citizens, fundraising, and diversity programs. Each year I provide the Board of Governors with such a document, and Rutgers' progress in each area is one of the bases on which my performance is annually evaluated.

The 2007 Annual Address to the University Community, which I delivered last month, highlights areas of particular emphasis. These areas include undergraduate education, research on topics of global impact, campus improvements, and a pilot program to expand access to higher education for young people in our host communities. You can read, watch, or hear the speech at http://www.president.rutgers.edu/address07_speech.shtml.

We all have a stake in Rutgers' progress, and so I encourage you to review these documents and welcome your feedback.
