Continuing the Rutgers–Camden Chancellor Search

Updated April 28, 2008

Members of the Rutgers Community:

Many people have contributed their time to the search for a new Rutgers–Camden chancellor, and I am grateful. Let me offer particular thanks to the search committee, led by Professor Alan Tarr as chair, for its excellent work and thoughtful deliberations.

Through the committee's efforts, the Rutgers–Camden community has had the opportunity to meet five well-qualified and engaging candidates. I am not convinced, however, that the ideal candidate for the position has emerged. Therefore, after careful consideration, my administration has decided that the university will continue the search process for the chancellor of Rutgers–Camden.

As we move forward, I am pleased and thankful that interim chancellor Margaret Marsh has graciously agreed to continue in that position, with Michael Palis serving in her stead as interim dean of the Camden Faculty of Arts and Sciences. We will benefit from their dedicated and effective leadership while we continue to search for the best possible candidate to serve in this crucial Rutgers position.

Within the next few weeks I will be providing you with additional information about the search.
