Be Heard—Register and Vote!

September 26, 2008

Dear Rutgers Students:

We are witnessing a historic presidential campaign, and the world in which we live will be shaped by the outcome on Election Day. Critical issues now face our country, and you have an opportunity to influence the future. I encourage you to make your voice heard by voting on November 4, 2008.

If you are a citizen of the United States and will be 18 years of age before Election Day, you are eligible to register for this election. The deadline to register to vote in New Jersey is October 14, 2008; registration deadlines vary from state to state. Please remember that if you want to vote in your campus community (Camden, Newark, New Brunswick, or Piscataway), you must be registered with your current campus address.

To register to vote, please pick up a registration form at any Student Center Information Desk. To download or complete a registration form online, for instructions on how to register on-campus and off-campus, and for information on registration deadlines and obtaining an absentee ballot, visit http://ruvoting.rutgers.edu/. Once you have completed the voter registration form, either place it in the mail or drop it off at one of the following locations:

  • Camden: NJPIRG Office - Camden Campus Center, 2nd Floor
  • Newark: NJPIRG Office - Robeson Campus Center, Room 303
  • New Brunswick (Douglass Campus): Eagleton Institute of Politics, Ryders Lane
  • New Brunswick (College Avenue Campus): NJPIRG Office - Rutgers Student Center, Room 405

All registrations must be postmarked by October 14. To confirm your registration, call 1-877-NJVOTER (1-877-658-6837).

For further information, contact Elizabeth Matto of the Eagleton Institute of Politics or Martha Guarnieri of the RU Voting Coalition. Your participation in this election will be felt for years to come. I urge you to register and vote this Election Day.
