Appointment of Rutgers Foundation President

June 6, 2005

Members of the Rutgers Community:

It is my pleasure to announce that Carol Herring, currently the vice president for external affairs at The Asia Society, a national nonprofit cultural institution based in New York City, will serve as the new President of the Rutgers University Foundation and Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, beginning September 1, 2005.

Carol has spent the past 30 years in key fundraising positions at Princeton University, Barnard College, and the Asia Society, gaining vast experience in cultivating major support from private, external sources. She has a strong record of success in fundraising, and she will be an excellent leader for the Foundation at a critical time for Rutgers.

Many thanks to Dean John Colaizzi and the members of the search committee, whose dedication and care resulted in a strong pool of outstanding candidates for this position.

Vice president and director of gift planning Jim Dawson also deserves our thanks for his fine service as his capacity as interim president, which he will continue until September. Jim's steady hand and thoughtful stewardship, supported by the dedication of the Foundation staff and the leadership of the Board of Overseers, have kept the Foundation focused and on track, enabling us to conduct a thorough and careful search process over the past year.

In Carol Herring, I am confident that we have found the right person to lead the Rutgers Foundation to its next level of accomplishment, and I know you will join me in welcoming Carol to the university this fall.
